On 16 November, at the Global Shield Against Climate Risks’ side event, "Regional Risk Pools: Supporting Transboundary Services to Fragile and Climate Vulnerable Countries", co-hosted by the Global Shield Secretariat and Global Shield Solutions Platform (GSSP), the leaders of the four Regional Risk Pools outlined the progress made by each Regional Risk Pool. They highlighted the impact they have made in building transboundary resilience by providing safety nets for millions, and signaled a joint commitment to a sustainable future for the global “Regional Risk Pools family” in a panel moderated by Sönke Kreft.
The session included considerations on how to further strengthen Regional Risk Pools through deepening cooperation, including potential joint financial structures for improved reinsurance pricing. This built on the report, "Regional Risk Pools: Optimization Options for Risk Ceding and Retention", prepared by WTW for GSSP and Regional Risk Pools earlier this year.
Before the Panel discussion, the event included opening remarks by Dr. Astrid Zwick, Co-Director of the Global Shield Secretariat; the update from Dr. Annette Detken, Head of the Global Shield Solutions Platform; and the presentation of the report by Dr. Simon Young, Senior Director of Disaster Risk Finance at WTW.
Recording of the session is available online.
