Ms. Hien Anh Than, Board Director of SEADRIF Insurance Company, participated in the Regional Workshop 'Promotion of Crop Insurance in ASEAN through the Public and Private Partnership'.
The ASEAN region’s smallholder farmers face growing challenges to sustainable agriculture due to climate change, extreme weather events, pest infestations, and market fluctuations. These challenges threaten farmers' livelihoods and have broader implications for food security, economic resilience, and rural development.
To address these climate risk vulnerabilities, the ‘Promotion of Crop Insurance in ASEAN through the Public and Private Partnership’ project was launched in October 2023 with funding from the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund. This project aims to provide financial protection against yield losses and other risks through crop insurance, empowering farmers to adopt innovative agricultural practices, invest in productivity-enhancing technologies, and recover swiftly from adverse events.
As the project nears its conclusion, the Wrap-Up Event offers an opportunity to reflect on achievements, share key findings, and build momentum for sustained efforts in crop insurance development. The event was held in conjunction with the ASEAN Crop Burning Reduction workshop on March 4-5, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and virtually.
Representing SEADRIF, Ms. Than highlighted SEADRIF's potential in supporting the future development and promotion of crop and agricultural insurance in ASEAN. As a Southeast Asian-led Initiative, SEADRIF plays a significant role in facilitating cooperation between the financial and agricultural sectors to enhance public-private partnerships in crop and agricultural insurance for the region.
SEADRIF appreciates the invitation from the The ASEAN Secretariat and the Mekong Institute to participate in this important event.
