SEADRIF participated in the Insurance Development Forum 2025 last week. Dr. Yoshihiro Kawai, Director of the SEADRIF Initiative and Board Chair of SEADRIF Insurance Company, joined Min Hung Cheng, CEO of the Global Asia Insurance Partnership, in a discussion on resilience-building initiatives. They explored the topic: Turning Intentions into Resilient Outcomes – Practical Steps to Developing Integrated and Holistic Protection Gap Strategies in Asia.

Dr. Kawai highlighted the root causes of Asia’s significant protection gap, including insufficient risk data, technical knowledge, and local expertise. Addressing these challenges require strong government involvement, private sector collaboration, and multilateral partnerships. SEADRIF and the Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP) are among the pioneering solutions tackling this issue. SEADRIF acts as an Asian Public Insurer, conceived and owned by ASEAN+3 Governments—akin to a development bank but focused on insurance. It helps governments secure tailored coverage, fostering cooperation between industries, governments, and development institutions to close the protection gap and ensure a more resilient future.

SEADRIF congratulates the Insurance Development Forum on a successful event and celebrates its remarkable 10th anniversary of uniting industry leaders, public sector representatives, and practitioners at global, regional, and local levels to advance meaningful collaboration toward a shared vision of global resilience.
