As part of the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), SEADRIF conducted the Environmental & Social Management training workshop in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 20-21 November 2024. This follow-up training delved into the reporting details to ensure that payout fund utilization adheres to the pre-approved contingency plan. The first training session was held in conjunction with the payout ceremony event, following the US$3 million payout from the Government’s parametric flood insurance policy, which was triggered by damages from Typhoon Yagi in October.
There were about 30 participants representing Ministries from both central and provincial governments. All participants actively engaged in the two-day event, providing input, making comments, and asking questions through six practice sessions and presentations.
The training sessions were led by Tuan Le Anh, SEADRIF E&S Focal Point, co-facilitated by Ei Ei Mon and Tran Nhu Trang, SEADRIF specialist consultants. Vena Ngonvorarath, SEADRIF Laos Focal Point Consultant, provided support locally.
Mr. Somxay Keovandy, Deputy Director General, Department of State Owned Enterprises and Insurance Supervision, Ministry of Finance, provided a comprehensive opening remark. Ms. Vimala Khounthalangsy, Director of Disaster Control and Recovery Division, delivered the closing remark.
The active participation and collaboration demonstrate the government’s commitment to effective and prompt results, ensuring all spending adheres to the SEADRIF ESMS, which was prepared in line with the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF).
