Unlocking Regional Insights: Best Practices in Climate and Disaster Risk Financing in Cambodia and Indonesia

SEADRIF participated in a study tour themed “Exploring Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance (CDRFI) options for Shock-responsive Social Protection in Cambodia and Indonesia”. The event was held in Jakarta from August 4–8, 2025, and was organized by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with government stakeholders from both countries.

Strengthening financial preparedness for climate shocks took centre stage during the study tour. Discussions focused on how countries can design and implement effective risk financing strategies linked to shock-responsive social protection systems. Through site visits, technical sessions, and peer exchange, participants explored practical models for disaster risk funding, insurance mechanisms, and inter-agency coordination.

SEADRIF Insurance Company's Executive Director, Benedikt Signer, delivered a session on SEADRIF development and led another on macro-level insurance, outlining the institutional, financial, and technical conditions necessary for disaster risk financing. His contributions reflected SEADRIF’s ongoing role in supporting regional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The study tour served as a valuable platform to share experiences, strengthen partnerships, and build momentum for more coordinated and resilient approaches to disaster risk financing across the region.
